Alright people,
Well, this Christmas break has nearly come to an end with New Year's Eve being last night and school resuming next Monday. I'm sorry for the lack of posts, but you all know how Christmas time is for family. That being said, happy new year! Now on to the beer...
So during this break I was able to make it to the best beer store in Ohio near my house; Jungle Jim's. I've been on the lookout for Oskar Blues Ten Fidy whenever we go to Ohio, and finally I was able to find it at JJ's. Oskar Blues has intrigued me for a bit because of some of their peculiarities. For one, they only can beer as far as I know, which to the industrial engineer in me, screams efficiency in packaging and shipping. Also, I love big stout, and Ten Fidy is probably their most sought after beer. Given these things, here we go.
First off, you'll notice the mason jar glass. I don't care who you are, there is just something right about drinking out of a mason jar. Anyway, right off the bat, this baby poured thick and black, and as evident in the picture, it had a huge head on it. I'll take most of the blame for the big head, but it would have made a fairly decent sized one without my vigorous pour. This was a pretty delicious smelling brew, with prominent chocolate and dark roast flavors. The taste was the pretty much the same, except less prominent chocolate and more bitter flavors. Here's the full review.
Overall, this was a satisfying beer. A big stout with big roast flavors and some sweetness peeking in now and then. The best part of this beer, aside from how gloriously thick it poured, was the thick creamy texture on the palate. There was a slight hint of alcohol burn, but the low carbonation and thick feel more than made up for the slight burn. I recommend trying this one if you're in distribution range.
Well, that's that for the beer this time. I'm planning on getting another post up here this coming Thursday or Friday, so keep an eye out for that. The new, and last for me, semester starts Monday, so it's the first of the lasts for me. It'll be different know that this is my last semester, but I'm looking forward to living it up at school for one more semester. Until next time, cheers!
-Chris
