Beer and Football

Alright people,

For college football fans, the big day is here. Will Notre Dame return to national glory, or will the crazy genius of Nick Saban prevail again? Well, before we get to my game prediction, and get to learn the actual answer tonight, let's talk some beer.

Petrus Aged Pale is a beer that has been recommended to me multiple times as a sour beer to start with, and after having some of the other sours, I finally tried Petrus. Having had other so-called "top sours" (Russian River, Cantillon, 3F varieties) I can honestly say that they have nothing on this beer. Aged Pale starts off with a beautiful pour, then backs it up with a great scent. My mouth literally watered while smelling this beer. Once in my mouth, this beer lived up to expectations once again. It's not overly sour, and it's complex too. The beer progresses from straight sour, to slightly dry with hints of the wood from the barrel aging process. If you're looking to get into sours, go here first. Despite what Miller High Life may say, this is the champagne of beers. It looks and feels like champagne, while at the same time backing up its reputation as a great beer. Check out the full review here.

Now, onto the national title game. This is going to be a tough one to call, and maybe even a tougher one to watch. Both Alabama and Notre Dame have terrific defenses. If this one gets into the 20's, I'll be surprised. Anyway, I think I'll just cut to the chase and give you all my prediction.

Growing up in Indiana, I've been pretty much surrounded by ND fans, and never particularly cared for them; except for one. My grandpa is probably the biggest ND fan I know, and I don't mean he is a traditional fan boy; he knows football, isn't obnoxious about his team, and will discuss games objectively. To boot, he has had a pinched nerve in his back the past few weeks, and nothing would make him happier than a ND win. Although I don't take that into account in my prediction, I think he'll be happy with the result tonight. I think that Notre Dame will wake up the echos tonight with a 17-14 win.

Between the two coaches involved, the Manti Te'o story line, and the Alabama tradition; this game will be full of stories for the national media. I'm looking forward to watching it with some friends and seeing how this one plays out. Until next time, cheers!

-Chris
