Alright people,
Well, it's basically the end of the semester with dead week next week and just one homework assignment left before finals.....and 2 presentations and 4 finals before I'm done. But I survived this week so....victory!
Tonight's beer is one that I never thought I could acquire without having to make a trade. Boulevard's Love Child No. 2 was released this summer when I was working in St. Louis, and it was gone in a flash. When I came back to school, I made a trip up to the liquor store and my jaw nearly hit the floor when I saw 4 of these bad lads just chilling on a shelf. I bought 3 in all, sending one out in a trade, keeping one to cellar, and having one to taste tonight; so let's get to it.
First off, here's the obligatory full post on BA. Second, if you notice the jewelry in the background, you have noticed that I'm visiting the girlfriend. Unfortunately, she wasn't a big fan of this beer, but this guy was. I really liked this one, both cold and warmed. When it is cooler, it exhibits a classic wild ale sour flavor profile. Warmed, it mellows out considerably. The thing that makes this wild ale stand out in comparison to others, like the Russian Rivers that I've had, is it's bourbon barrel aging. Bourbon doesn't have a prominent role in either scent or flavor, but it's there a little at the end and the oak flavor also provides more complexity. Overall, it's just a very good and interesting beer that you don't get everyday. I'm really glad I have one in the cellar to check on in a few years.
Well, that's it. Just a quick post tonight. I might get another up here this weekend, but we'll see. Until next time, cheers!
-Chris
