Alright people,
It's the end of a semi-long week, and by that I mean it was the first 5-day week after the fall break shortened 3-day week. So that means it's time for a good beer.
Been waiting to break out one of the Reserve Series beers from Firestone Walker for a while, and a buddy was back in town, so I figured that was good enough. Well, he was doing other stuff, but I had some friends over and cracked open the Double Double Barrel Ale.
This one was honestly a big surprise. Everyone always down plays this beer in comparison to Sucaba and Parabola, but honestly, this was impressive. It was the first barrel-aged beer I've had, other than KBS, in which the barrel and whiskey flavors didn't overpower the base beer. I'm never normally a fan of bitters, or English style beers for that matter, but this was pretty darn good. A solid base beer with a big caramel malt foundation is what helps this one a lot. The base beer is smooth and delicious, while the barrel flavors just add to the complexity. Check out the full review here. In the end, I wish I would have bought another bottle or two.
Sorry I don't have a picture for this one, but until next time, happy drinking, and cheers!
-Chris
