I cam into the day needing 2 review to get to #200 as the loyal 26 readers know; and reach 200 I have.
We'll start with #199. I had to go to the bottle shop to get a random beer for this one. Didn't want to break open anything special for 199, so I grabbed Victory Brewing's version of Saison du Buff. I'm not saison buy, but when 3 breweries collaborate on a beer, and 2 of them are Stone and Dogfish Head, you gotta stand up and take notice.
I was skeptical because, like I said, I'm no saison lover. I started off by reading the label and finding out that the main spice in this beer is rosemary.....ok....why? Isn't that stuff for pasta? I tried to keep an open mind, but opening this one and taking a whiff, I knew I was in for an interesting drink. This one smells like a skunky euro pils, but with prominent spicy notes. The only problem is that the main spice is rosemary and something that smells a lot like basil. Basically, to me this was a pasta beer with slight lemony hints. It wasn't great, not terrible, but not great. Check out my thoughts at the time here.
On to the main event, review number 200: BCBS. I was able to score 18 Bourbon Counties this year, so I figure my first taste of BCBS would be a good #200. This brew is pretty hyped if you didn't know, and for the most part, I think it lives up to the hype. BCBS is way more whiskey heavy than its other hyped brethren like Founders KBS, so much so that I consider them almost in different genres. I'm a big bourbon guy, but this one pushes the envelope. It is a world class beer, that I think will be even better after a few months in the bottle. Smooth out a little bit of that heat and it should be good to go. Here's the whole review.
Now on to the important stuff: baseball. The Reds have Game 1 of the NLDS tonight at 9:30 against the Giants. As you can see, Gnomes is making an appearance in the blog, and I have a good feeling about this season. After last night's Cardinals-Braves Wild Card game, I am a little worried about possible umpire issues, but I this this Reds team just has that "It Factor" to win in the post season. We'll know after tonight and tomorrow. They need 1 win in San Fran, then to just bring it back home and finish it off. It's time for a Reds October!
Until next time, go Reds!
