I've been having some computer issues lately, and everything is really slow and frustrating. But now I'm back, and there is some beer to talk about.
Let's work backward in time and start with last night's beer; Marin Star Brew-Triple Wheat Ale. This was my first encounter with a wheatwine, and I got this beer as an extra in my recent west coast trade. I figured a wheatwine would just be a typical wheat beer (read Blue Moon, Shocktop, etc) on steroids, but I was wrong. This beer drinks like like an imperial pale ale. Starts off light, with some, but not a lot, of wheat flavors, then the malts and hops kick in. Neither are overwhelming, but the combo really transitions the flavor away from the normal lighter wheat side. It was fairly good, but nothing that I'm too excited over. Here's the review.
Then we go back to Friday night. Long week, really busy with class, job fair, and an interview, so I grabbed one that I was looking forward to a little more. Bar Harbor Cadillac Mountain Stout. If you checked out the BA profile, you can see it is rated pretty favorably, and I'm a stout guy, and actually, this one was pretty good. I haven't been a huge fan of Irish stouts in the past, but I put that out of my mind for this one. Overall, there is just a good blend of dark roasted malts and slight hints of hops in this beer. Slightly dry at the end, but like the style says, it is a dry stout. I'm not likely to come across this again as it was an extra in a trade, but if I did, I'd probably buy another one.
Now for a quick sports recap. Bengals are currently in line to get their first win...if it's brown flush it down! Reds are in a 1 run game and leading. Latos is throwing a dandy through 7. Need the Reds to get it together offensively in the next 2 weeks before the playoffs start, especially if they match up with the Giants or Philly in the first round. That being said, Magic Number is 6 now, and could be down to 4 by the end of the day.
Until next time, cheers!
