Starting with a Bang: Pliny the Elder

To christen the sight, I'm going to review the highest rated beer I've ever had the privilege to own. Russian River Brewing Company's Pliny the Elder.

Here's what other BA's say. And here's what I say (full BA review).

What can I say about this beer that hasn't already been said? I can't give this enough praise. If you've looked at my review, it's a 5/5. But I would say of my other 2 reviews that earned 5's, only 1 compares, and that was Iris on-tap. KBS is a world class beer, but fresh PtE literally blows my mind.

What gets my motor running about PtE is it's balance. I'm not a hop head by any means, and a lot of Imperial IPA's scare me away, but damnit, Pliny is among the top 3 beers I've ever had. Such delicious hops bitterness is balance absolutely exquisitely with the malts and sweetness, it's unbelievable. I don't know what else to say about this beer.

Obviously, I'm not alone in my opinion. PtE is ranked #5 on BA's top beer rankings, and it is well deserved.

This is my first encounter with Russian River, and as I also received 2 of their Supplications and 2 of their Consecrations, I can't wait to try them.

I can only hope that someday I get to try Pliny the Younger.

Until next time, 2 pieces of advice; 1- if you can get PtE, get it
                                                     2- if you can't, find a way

Cheers!
-Chris
